Artist Biography
Edward S. Watson (1899-1939), born in Maryborough, Queensland, was an illustrator, cartoonist, printmaker, and journalist. After serving in the Great War, he worked for Queensland Railways before becoming a cartoonist for the Brisbane Courier, the Daily Standard, and the Queenslander. During this period, he created drawings, prints, and paintings depicting prominent Brisbane personalities and buildings. Watson died young, leaving behind a small but notable body of work.
